When the going gets tough….
The tough get tougher! We thought post covid we would breathe a sigh of relief, only to get caught in the trap (points for correctly identifying hidden song lyrics) of a cost of living crisis and then an HMRC duty increase from 1st August. I read the news today, and, oh boy…many small and big distilleries may not weather this storm! Some have already shut up shop, and many have been very vocal and passionate about the effect this will have on small craft distillers. We hear you!
Whilst it feels doom and gloom, we have some good news to share and shout about! That we have been working on since January. We want to do things a little differently - Our prices - this side of December- will not increase for our distillery experiences, online or for wholesale customers, despite the massive hike in duty (some call us foolish, some call us crazy). Which means there will be no price increase passed on to you. We know first-hand just how tough it is out there, and like you, at the moment, it all helps. Our drinks bring people together; artisan spirits should be accessible to all. We invite everyone to the party, more so now. Whilst this will be tough for us, we want as many of you as possible to access our experiences and drinks.
We have decided to absorb some costs and work differently - whilst maintaining quality. We are constantly looking for ways to work differently - we’ve seen ready to drink Gin in a can enter our range, and working with Every Can Counts to recycle as many as possible (https://everycancounts.co.uk/can-recycling/. Look out for the recycling boxes at our next event). We will see several new bottles, including recycled glass, enter the range this year. We are also working with local producers directly to bring costs down - Our wonderful friends at Godminster Cheese (https://www.godminster.com/about-us/godminster-shop/), Keen’s Cheddar (https://www.keenscheddar.co.uk/) and Marshfield ice cream (https://www.marshfield-icecream.co.uk/). We have also created a new workshop space upstairs in our distillery to welcome more of you through our doors. You may even see low-ABV drinks enter the range…watch this space.
